CO2 is one of the three essential inputs for photosynthesis alongside light and water. Plants draw CO2 from the surrounding air and convert it into the carbohydrates that drive growth, flowering, and fruit production. In a sealed or semi-sealed growing environment, CO2 levels can drop significantly below ambient as plants consume it faster than it is replenished, creating a bottleneck that limits how effectively the plant can use the light available to it.
Ambient air contains approximately 400 ppm of CO2. Research consistently shows that most crop species can photosynthesise more efficiently at elevated CO2 levels, with concentrations between 1200 and 1500 ppm often cited as the productive target range for indoor growing environments. At these levels plants are better able to convert available light into energy, supporting faster vegetative growth, stronger stem development, and improved flowering and fruit production from the same lighting setup.
CO2 candles provide a low-cost, low-infrastructure method of introducing supplemental CO2 into a small grow space. Combustion of the candle produces CO2 as a byproduct, releasing it gradually into the surrounding environment over the burn period. Best suited to small, enclosed spaces where CO2 enrichment via dedicated generators or tanks is impractical or cost-prohibitive. Keep the growing space reasonably sealed during use to maintain elevated CO2 levels and ensure adequate ventilation is managed carefully to balance CO2 retention with fresh air requirements.
This candle has a burn time of approximately 115 hours, suited to growers who want extended CO2 supplementation across a longer period without replacing the candle frequently.
